SOTA Cheer & Dance Team Makeup Tutorial

In this tutorial, I’m walking you through the full step-by-step SOTA Cheer & Dance Team Makeup Look. This look is designed to stay in place through warm-ups, full-out routines, and awards while still showing clearly on the floor and in photos. Let’s get started!

WATCH THE TUTORIAL VIDEO HERE:

Eye Prep

Start by applying a thin layer of eyeshadow primer across the eyelid. This helps lock in your eyeshadow and keeps the colors looking clean and defined throughout practice and competition.

Next, lightly dust loose setting powder under the eyes. This step is optional, but it helps catch any eyeshadow fallout and makes cleanup quick and easy. You can also lightly dust some powder over the eyelids to create an even base.

Eyeshadow Look

Begin with a light shimmer eyeshadow and use your fingertip to press it into the inner eyelid and near the tear duct. This brightens the inner corner of the eye and helps open everything up.

Next, use a dome-shaped eyeshadow brush to apply a matte gray shade into the crease. Sweep it back and forth toward the outer corner, then switch to a fluffy brush to soften and blend the color.

Repeat on the other eye.

Now, apply black eyeshadow using the dome-shaped brush. Press the color into the outer corner of the eye in a V shape. Switch to a fluffy brush and lightly blend the color through the crease to soften it.

Pro Tip: If you want a clean, sharp line for your smokey eye, line up your finger from the outer corner of your eye to the outer edge of your eyebrow. This gives you a crisp guideline as you press the shadow into the outer corner.

Use your fingertip to apply the pink shimmer shade across the eyelid from the inner lid, through the middle, and up toward the outer corner. Use a fluffy brush very lightly to blend everything together for a smooth finish. You can also use a foam applicator for even coverage.

Mascara & Blush

Apply two coats of mascara to add volume and definition to the lashes.

If you added powder under your eyes earlier, sweep it away now along with any fallout.

Next, apply blush by patting it onto the apples of the cheeks using a powder puff, then blend it up along the cheekbones for a soft, finished look.

Lips

Start by cleaning your lips with a makeup wipe to remove any oils, balm, or leftover makeup.

Line your lips first, then fill them in using a thin, even coat of your lip color. Let everything dry completely for a few minutes.

If you’re using a lip stain pen, be sure to give it a good shake before applying.

Transfer-Proof Tip: To keep your lip color from moving, avoid all chapstick, lip balm, or lip gloss underneath or over the top. Leave the lip color in its dry matte finish.

Final Look

And that is the finished SOTA Cheer & Dance Team Makeup Look! This look is built to stay put, show clearly on the mat, and photograph beautifully under competition lighting.

Have an incredible season, everyone!
